We often only see the tip of the iceberg. 👀

We see the ordinary, the confusing, the waiting, and the things that feel hidden. But 1 Samuel 16 reminds us that God sees what we cannot, and He rules what we cannot see. 🙏

Saul had the throne, but not the peace of God. David was still in the field, but the Spirit of the Lord was with him. To human eyes, the story looked one way. But beneath the surface, God was moving.

And in Saul’s troubled soul, we are reminded of something true for all of us: temporary relief can soothe for a moment, but it cannot save.

David could quiet Saul’s storm for an evening, but Jesus stills the storm forever. He gives true rest to every weary and troubled soul who comes to Him. 🤍

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 ESV

Reflect this week:

1️⃣ Where are you tempted to only trust what you can see?
2️⃣ What are you reaching for when your soul feels weary or troubled?
3️⃣ Where do you need to come to Christ for true rest?

Don’t settle for what only soothes for a moment. Come to Christ, the true King, and find the rest your heart was made for. ✨

Partial obedience may look acceptable on the outside, but before the Lord, it is still disobedience.

In 1 Samuel 15, Saul obeyed much of what God commanded, but he kept back what seemed good to him. He obeyed the easy parts and spared the costly ones.

Through Samuel’s rebuke, we are reminded that the Lord does not desire outward religious activity covering a divided heart. He desires a heart that listens to His Word and obeys. 🙏

And the good news is this: where Saul failed, Christ fully obeyed. ✝️ Jesus made no excuses, shifted no blame, and bore the judgment our disobedience deserved.

Because of Him, we do not obey to earn God’s favor. We obey because we already have His favor in Christ.

Reflection Questions:

1️⃣Where have I settled for the appearance of obedience instead of full surrender?
2️⃣What sin or compromise am I tempted to manage instead of bringing into the light?
3️⃣How does Christ’s perfect obedience free me to walk in joyful obedience today?

📖 “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.” 1 Samuel 15:22 ESV

🙏 May we rest in Christ, whose perfect obedience is counted as ours through faith, and walk in the joyful obedience that flows from a heart transformed by grace.

This morning we had the privilege of joining alongside other local churches to serve neighbors in our communities 🤝

Today, 11 churches and more than 100 volunteers came together in 3 different cities to care for homeowners through practical and tangible acts of service. Our team had the opportunity to serve an elderly neighbor here in Longwood 🏡

Loving our neighbor looked like yard work, cleanup, sweat, helping hands, and people willingly giving their time and strength to care for others 💙

We are so thankful for our .church volunteers who showed up ready to serve with humility and joy. May the Lord continue to make us a people marked by compassion, humility, and a willingness to care for others in tangible ways for His glory and the good of our neighbors.

“Let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18
