An update from the City of Fremont about Republic Services

07/15/2025

A very important update from the City of Fremont, CA Government about the latest from Republic Services impacting services in Fremont, Newark, Union City, San Jose, Richmond, and San Pablo in the Bay Area

Waste Collection Service Alert Update for July 14, 2025 – Evening

The City of Fremont is providing another update to keep our community informed about the status of waste collection services.

As the current service disruption from Republic Services continues for a seventh day—stemming from a work stoppage by local drivers in solidarity with Teamster drivers striking in other U.S. cities—the City is urging Republic Services to restore full service to the Fremont community and have its local employees return to work. This remains a top priority, as we understand the current situation is creating unnecessary public health impacts.

For Tuesday, July 15, Republic Services is planning the following:

– Residential garbage routes with additional drivers are planned, focusing on Wednesday routes that were not completed today and Thursday routes.

Status remains the same on the following:

– Green organics/yardwaste carts and blue recycling carts will continue to be delayed at this point. The City has no further information on when recycling and organics/yardwaste carts will be collected.

– As drivers start to catch up from last week’s collection routes, the City is asking residents not to place their carts at the curb for this week’s collection days. For example, if your pick-up day is normally Monday, July 14, please don’t set out your cart yet. That day’s collection will be delayed until further notice.

Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station:

– Fremont residents and businesses, with proof of business/residency, can continue to take their normal trash, recycling, and organics/yardwaste for free disposal to the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station, located at 41149 Boyce Rd. in Fremont. fremont-recycling.com/

– Free drop-offs of normal trash, recycling, and organics/yardwaste start at 6:00 a.m. at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station (instead of 8:00 a.m.). fremont-recycling.com/

– We understand that the lines may be long and appreciate your patience with the staff at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station. They are working extra hours to help the City recover.

At this time, the City and Republic Services staff do not have any information on when the current work stoppage will end, nor do we have any information on the financial status of customer bills, refunds, etc. while the work stoppage continues.
