Moffat's Retro "L" photos: today a look at the Normal Park branch. Until 1949, this branch which split off from the Englewood branch just west of the Harvard/63rd stop at Stewart, was worked by cars which were added/dropped from Englewood trains. In late 1949, the Normal Park branch was reduced to a shuttle from 69th Street to the Harvard station where passengers transferred. The mile-long shuttle lasted until 1954 and was typically run with rather elderly wood cars.

The 1953 color view by William Hoffman shows a relatively grime-free former North Side wood car arriving at Harvard. The Stewart Junction tower is in the background. The next view is a contemporary shot looking directly south from the former junction showing the former alignment which continued through the trees in the background. Stops were at 65th and Marquette (67th) where the line jogged over a block to end at 69th near Normal Blvd. The black & white shot of a single car at 65th was taken by Carl Heil in 1949 only weeks before the line was reduced to a shuttle. We then have a shot of the 69th terminal, followed by a vintage news clip. Other than some vacant property parcels known as back lots, there are no traces remaining.
