I’ve posted a bit about this guitar in my stories, but I wanted to commemorate this in a post as well. I had dreamed of owning a D-28 since I was a child, seeing it in hands of many rick stars and folk singers, hearing it in action at open mics and concerts. They were somewhat of a fantasy and felt out of reach until helped me out with this beautiful 1997 Martin D-28.
I had already been an owner of several Martin guitars over the years. I had a Martin DRS2 for about 5 years until having to sell it for financial reasons. A few years later when my finances were back in order I then bought a 000-18 (which gets featured a lot around here) as well as a 000-13e that has been my main gigging and worship leading guitar for the last 3 years and has served my needs loyally. I still had dreamed of owning a dreadnought again, with that big, deep, and rich sound. About a year ago I started a search for “the one.” I tried a ton of guitars out, sometimes buying them and then selling or trading. All sounded great, but wasn’t quite what I was looking for: Gibsons, Guilds, Taylors, Epiphones, eventually landing on a toss between the Martin D-18 or D-28. After trying over 20 examples between the two models, I finally found this one, “THE ONE.” My songwriting partner and hands down the best guitar I’ve ever played (to my taste anyhow).
Anyway this whole ramble to say that I am extremely grateful to The Guitar Shoppe in Laguna Beach, CA and also to be able to make music my career, my living, and my joy. Thanks for being here as joy is best when it’s shared. God bless you all, and have a beautiful day!
Shaking off the dust: practicing over some medium swing 2-5-1 changes and getting my chops up again.

New Release Day #5 !
What a week it’s been! Today is the fifth and final release of New Release Week, with another perennial favorite from my catalog “Highway One.” Inspired by a particular experience I had as a 16 year old, after a bad argument with a girlfriend of mine. We knew that our short relationship was over but was putting off the breakup because of how much we cared about each other. I still sometimes wonder why certain relationships and situations become “irreconcilable.” My hope and prayer is for us all, including myself, to be more understanding, gracious, and forgiving.

Tomorrow Was Yesterday is one of the oldest songs I have in my catalog. The guitar parts I started as far back as 2004, with lyrics being written in 2007. It’s been one of the longest songwriting arcs I’ve known, with this version being recorded in 2024. True to the lyrics and message, this song, like much of my life, has not gone as I planned, with many goals and dreams “timing out” or just being cancelled completely. This is not a means of being bitter, but understanding that surrender and letting go is an important part of maturity and growth, and makes room for what is good in the present and the hope for an even better future.
