✨ Volunteer Spotlight: Corey Stewart ✨

Meet Corey Stewart, Principal Laser Engineer at Alcon and one of our incredible volunteers helping inspire the next generation of STEM leaders!

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Corey moved to California to pursue a career in laser-based medical devices. With a background in physics and materials science, he now studies how lasers interact with the complex anatomy of the eye to help advance medical technology. When he's not working, you'll find Corey hiking, golfing, or taking his dogs to the beach. 🐾

Why does he support Project Scientist? “I've always enjoyed tutoring students in science and engineering and doing as much outreach as possible to educate students and hopefully inspire them to become scientists themselves one day!”

Thank you, Corey, for sharing your passion for STEM and helping empower future innovators! 💙

This Juneteenth, we honor the creativity, resilience, and impact of those whose work continues to shape culture, inspire change, and expand representation.

🌟 Tayari Jones: New York Times bestselling author whose acclaimed novels, including An American Marriage and Kin, has earned major literary awards, Oprah’s Book Club selections, and international recognition.

🌟 Natasha Rothwell: Emmy-nominated actress, producer, and writer known for her work on The White Lotus and Insecure, as well as her advocacy for social justice, education, and community empowerment.

🌟 Gabby Thomas: Olympic gold medalist and one of the world’s fastest sprinters—ranking second all-time in the 200 meters. Thomas also earned degrees in Neurobiology and Epidemiology, and advocates for greater diversity in STEM, particularly for young women of color.

🌟 Jordan Casteel: A celebrated figurative painter whose vibrant, large-scale portraits challenge traditional representations of race and gender while honoring the everyday people and communities often absent from museum walls.

🌟 Aretha Franklin: The "Queen of Soul," was a groundbreaking singer, songwriter, and civil rights advocate whose iconic music, historic achievements, and enduring influence helped shape American culture for more than five decades.

At Project Scientist, we believe a more just and equitable world is built when girls see themselves as leaders, innovators, and disruptors. By providing access to STEM education, mentorship, and career pathways, we are helping the next generation break barriers, challenge expectations, and create a future where every girl has the power to shape the world around her.

Today, we celebrate the trailblazers who have paved the way and the girls who will carry that legacy forward.
