I’ve spent my life thinking about stories. Book banning doesn’t change what I write, but it reminds me why stories matter.
Thank you to the Freedom to Read fundraiser for City Council in Huntington Beach for inviting me to speak alongside Van Hoang, Erin Gruwell, and Billy Ray. And for supporting candidates who are united against bans.
The world needs more stories, not fewer.
I’ve spent my life believing in the power of stories.
As a journalist…
As a marketer…
And now as a novelist.
I’ve seen how stories shape businesses.
I’ve seen how they shape communities.
And I’ve seen how they shape us.
Books, by themselves, don’t change the world.
Readers do.
So yes, let’s protect the freedom to read.
But let’s do something even more important.
Let’s raise readers.
Because every child who falls in love with reading becomes an adult who knows how to imagine, to question, to empathize, and to think.
And I can’t imagine a better investment in our future than that.
