Parents and Their Progeny
Ephesians 6:1-4
Ephesians 6:1-4 (KJV)... 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. 4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord...
The Word of God is clear on this point; both the parent and their progeny have God-given roles and responsibilities they are to fulfill in their relationship to one another and to God… This morning, I want us to explore these truths together as we look at Parents and Their Progeny… The first thing we see in this passage is…
I. The Respect the Progeny Must Employ (vv.1-2)
1. The Priority of Respecting Our Parents (v.1)… Colossians 3:20
2. The Purpose of Respecting Our Parents (v.2)… Matthew 15:4a
II. The Reward the Progeny Can Expect (v.3)
1. The Promise of an Enriched Life (v.3a)… Romans 4:21; 1 Thessalonians 5:24; Hebrews 10:23
2. The Promise of an Extended Life (v.3b)…
III. The Role the Parent Should Embrace (v.4)
1. Parents Ought to Strive to Be Good Parents (v.4a)…
2. Parents Ought to Strive to Be Godly Parents (v.4b)…
CONCLUSION: Both parenting and childhood can be wonderful and enjoyable experiences if we follow God’s How to Live Manuel ~ The Bible… The greatest gift a parent can give to their child is a good and godly parent… Does your child know Jesus as their personal Savior? Do you?
Eliminating the Fear Factor
Psalm 34:4,6,15,17,19,22
Psalm 34:1-10… 4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears… 6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles… 15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry… 17 The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles… 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers him out of them all… 22 The Lord redeems the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate…
Did you know the command to “fear not” or “do not be afraid” is the most repeated command in the entire Bible?
Four Truths that are Evident when Fear is a Factor...
(1) Our Thoughts will be Tortured... John 4:18
(2) Our Performance will be Pitiful... Mark 14:72
(3) Our Relationships will be Ruined... Genesis 3:10
(4) Our Potential will be Paralyzed... John 20:19
Three Steps to Eliminating the Fear Factor…
1. Re-Arrange Your Thoughts…
Proverbs 23:7; John 8:32; Isaiah 41:10; Psalm 23:4
2. Re-Affirm Your Faith…
Matthew 10:28; 2 Corinthians 5:7
3. Re-Align Your Life…
Isaiah 43:18-19; 2 Corinthians 5:17
CONCLUSION: Hebrews 12:1-2; Isaiah 26:3
Spiritual Principle: Fear is the opposite of faith and faith is the overcomer of fear...
Sailing on Life’s Stormy Seas
Mark 4:35-41
Mark 4:35-41… 35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
Just as Jesus produced the miracle on the sea, He has the power to calm your storm today. And believe me, we all must face our storm. We see this dramatically presented in our text today….
I want to draw your attention to three main points within our text today…
I. The Trip in the Ship (vv.35-36)
1. Our Life Has a Captain When Jesus is on Board (v.35-36)… Hebrews 2:10; Joshua 1:5; Matthew 28:20Isaiah 43:2
2. Our Life Has a Course When Jesus is On Board (v.35)… Jeremiah 29:11; Isaiah 30:21; John 15:5
II. The Travail in the Gale (v.37)
1. This Was a Sudden Storm (v.37)… 1 Peter 4:12; Proverbs 27:1
2. This Was a Severe Storm (v.37)… …
a. Even in the Severest of Storms, We Must Strive to Subdue Our Fears… Psalm 56:3-4; 2 Timothy 1:7
b. Even in the Severest of Storms, We Must Strive to Sustain Our Focus… Romans 8:28; Hebrews 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 4:16-17
III. The Friend in the Wind (vv.38-40)
1. Jesus Responded to Their Fearfulness (v.38-39)… 2 Chronicles 15:2b; Jeremiah 29:12-14a
2. Jesus Reproved Them For Their Faithlessness (v.40)…
Mark 4:35… Mark 5:1a; Proverbs 17:3 Isaiah 48:10; Job 23:10; Psalms 66:10; 1 Peter 1:6-8
CONCLUSION: God says “Trust Me!!!” Do you trust Him? Do you know Him? My friend, are you ready to face the storm? You can be and will be if Jesus is in the ship? Do you have Him with you on the sea of life today?… Why not come to Him now?
The Past Behind Us – The Possibilities Before Us
Deuteronomy 2:1-3,13
Deuteronomy 2:1-3, 13… 1 Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, as the Lord spake unto me: we compassed Mount Seir many days. 2 And the Lord spake unto me, saying, 3 Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward...13 Now rise up, said I, and get ye over the Brook Zered). And we went over the Brook Zered...
Someone once said, we are all moving in the same direction – into the future… I believe this is true, but what future is it? The one living what can be or the one longing for what could have been? The past is behind us – the present is around us – the future is before us…
Preparation For The Future Requires That…
I. We Look Around (1 Corinthians 16:9a)..
1. We Must Look Around and Adjust Our Present Vision…
2. We Must Look Around and Assess Our Prospective Needs…
3. We Must Look Around and Accept Our Personal Challenges…
II. We Look Ahead (Philippians 3:13-14)...
1. We Must Look Ahead With Our Purpose In Mind…
2. We Must Look Ahead With Our Plan In Place…
3. We Must Look Ahead With Our People In Unison…
III. We Look Above (Romans 8:31: Philippians 4:13)...
1. We Must Look Above For The Wisdom To Direct Our Work…
2. We Must Look Above For The Will To Drive Our Work…
3. We Must Look Above For The Workers To Divide Our Work…
Conclusion: Together we can glow, go, and grow…
Arise, and let us go over the brook Zered…

How to Observe Thanksgiving
Psalm 107:1-9
Psalm 107:1-9 (KJV)… 1 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. 4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in. 5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. 6 Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses. 7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness...
