The City of LaGrange is deeply saddened to announce this morning we lost our Mayor Willie T. Edmondson. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and we are supporting them in any way we can during this time.
We ask the community to join us in keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Last week was my first as Mayor of Lagrange! It is an honor to serve our citizens and thank you for helping me get off to a strong start.
My first day on the job was the day after our most recent tornado. As I inspected the city and met with residents in need, I saw damage on Jarboe Street. Knowing that we had resources in the area that could get this street fixed quickly, I requested that a team go and do the job ASAP. Instead of waiting for a citizen to call in, we acted as a team and were proactive in finding a solution. (See the original picture in comments )
I have also been in several meetings related to transportation, housing and economic development to ensure that we continue to move forward in solving our city's issues.

Mayor-elect Willie T. Edmondson was at the beautiful Visit LaGrange building located at 206 Ridley Ave., and by wonderful coincidence Johnny Ford stopped in. Mr. Ford is the former Mayor of Tuskegee, AL who was first elected into office in 1972 and served a total of 32 years in that role. He was one of the first African-American Mayors in the State of Alabama, and he congratulated Dr. Edmondson on making history in LaGrange.
Dr. Edmondson will be officially sworn into office as LaGrange Mayor Monday, March 27th at 5:00 p.m. in Lafayette Square in Downtown LaGrange.
