A landlord in Farmington thought improvements to a tenant’s shower was in order and asked if we could help. I think it was the right call.

We recently completed a project for a nice couple. They wanted to add more guest space at their summer home. This was a fun project.

Barn Rescue!!! Part 2

We came in and addressed the roof damage first. Stripped the rotten boards off and replaced any compromised framing before closing the void back up with matching rough cut 1” boards.

Moving down to the ground floor/basement, we stripped out the saturated and compromised boards to evaluate how many of the purlins were rotten. We replaced the original tree cut purlins with 8x8 rough cut beams and installed them back into the original notched locations before adding a secondary support system underneath to help reduce any future bowing and distribute weight down closer to the ground, new footings were dug and poured as needed.

Finally we added some 3/8 steel cable across three points of the barn to help pull the walls in and snug up the new beams and reduce any future spreading. Once they were properly tensioned we installed new freshly milled 1x10 boards to match the original flooring.

This barn was nearly a century old and, even though it was a lot of work, was an absolute delight to have our hands on and the opportunity to salvage a piece of vintage NH life.
