I haven't posted for a while, and I really should be. I hear stories all the time that could really help people, and need to be sharing more.

For example, today I met with a monther and daughter, where the daughter is 18, living at home but a full time college student. I asked the daughter, "When is the last time you updated your estate plan?" (meaning Last Will & Testament, Financial and Medical Power of Attorney (POAs), and Living Will). She looked like a deer in headlights and asked her mom if she had a Will.

This is a typical scenario I run into all the time.

I then asked the mother, "If she were in an accident and hopitalized, unable to make decisions for herself, would you like to be in charge, or leave it all up to the doctors?" Both the mom and daughter agreed that the mom should be in charge. Then I told them that if the daughter doesn't have a POA in place, the hospital would not have to do anything the mother or father requested.

Anyone age 18 or older NEEDS to have their estate planning in place.

I spoke with an attorney from my law firm yesterday regarding a class action lawsuit postcard that I received in the mail. It was regarding a data breach with a health insurance company we had while living in Maryland. We have not been with that company since 2006, but were notified now, in 2019, with 4 different post cards, that my, my wife's, and my first two children's medical information 'may have been compromised' in their data breach.

Two things here. One, identity theft is real and it is not going away. Two, legal happens.
