Horses and hay

I met my first 3-string alfalfa bale in October of 2024. I remember, distinctly, because I couldn’t lift the darned thing! There have been many times that I contemplating buying 2-string, asking, “why am I putting myself through this?”
I honestly can’t tell you why I kept doing it. Saving a few bucks? Ease of breaking a flake in half? A subconscious voice that I couldn’t even hear in my head, telling me: if you let this win, what else are you going to let win?

Today, I can lift those 3-string alfalfa bales 💪🏻 We ask our horses to do hard things, it’s only fair that we hold ourselves to the same standard. Buy another one next week. Then buy 2. Heck, one day I bought 6 on a whim, arrived home and said out loud, alone in my barn, “what did I just do?”

Remove “I can’t” from your vocabulary and you’ll grow in ways you never thought were possible. For me today, it’s about a big ol’ bale of hay. Tomorrow, maybe it’s that goal I’ve been chasing.

I had so much fun with Gracie Love’s Kiwi 🥝 🥰
Light, light start - then back home to grow.

What’s the quickest way to take your colts from arena broke to trail broke? Don’t put up an arena 😂 In all seriousness, very proud of this young man for conquering our at home “trail” as the finale of his training. He has returned to his family and has a very bright future ahead ❤️

Little fella has made big strides this week! He’s had a handful of rides now so we left the roundpen to focus on following my hands and feet without the guidance of the fence. He’s still figuring out what this all means, as well as how to balance with a rider, but I am SO pleased with his TRY! He came in with some big dreams of being a saddle bronc - he’s found a better way forward and I didn’t even have to tell him he wasn’t going to make the cut at the NFR 😉

If we’re all just doing the best we can with what we know, and we’re able to see other people with this perspective in mind, what if we saw our horses through this lens as well?

When you don’t know, learn. When they don’t know, help. When you both know better, do better.
