I find it very irresponsible for people to say that “sugar feeds cancer.”

1. Because it actually doesn’t and I’ll go more into that in a second.
2. Because it leaves out the WHOLE conversation about fruit…

There’s so much complexity around this topic that we have to be careful of making any generalized statements that can be misinterpreted.

So let me ask… what do you think of when you think of sugar or sweets? Or what would one typically try to AVOID if they were cutting back on “sugar”?

Cakes?
Cookies?
Chocolate?
Desserts?
Ice cream?
Candy?
Brownies?
Cinnamon rolls?
Donuts?

The thing about all these “sweets” is that they are not just sugar.

They are almost always also high in FAT.

The fat + sugar combo is what creates insulin resistance.

The fat thickens and slows down the blood, and prevents the glucose from being able to absorb properly.

But isn’t it funny how we just blame the sugar?

Isn’t it funny how we don’t talk about the fat?

Isn’t it funny that we don’t talk about the gluten or grains?

Isn’t it funny that we never follow up the statement with the fact that we should still eat fruit though?

I am not at all condoning processed sugar WITHOUT fat, either.

But I am bringing awareness to the fact that we do a lot of harm with this statement, because whether we mean to or not, we create fear around eating fruit.

When FRUIT contains some of the most powerful compounds and antioxidants available to help strengthen your immune system to fight against abnormal cell growth (if you catch my drift).

But just eating fruit isn’t enough information either.

We need to eat FRUIT WITHOUT FAT.

And that is why the claim “sugar feeds cancer” needs more explanation and context.

This is a very simplified explanation but I hope it helps and I will probably go into more detail another time!
