📚 Grant in Action 📚

At Bernshausen Elementary, every bead tells the story of a book read.

Thanks to a Klein Education Foundation grant, students participating in the Book Beads Project earned a bead for every chapter book they read, creating colorful necklaces that represented their reading journeys and accomplishments throughout the semester.

The results were incredible: 26 students, one teacher, and a PTO volunteer read, reviewed, and summarized more than 400 chapter books between January and May! 🎉

Students proudly showcased their necklaces while walking the red carpet at their Poetry Café celebration, and seven students who read more than 20 books earned special 3D-printed prizes inspired by their favorite books and characters.

This creative project turned reading into a visible celebration of achievement, encouraging students to explore new genres, strengthen literacy skills, and develop a lifelong love of reading.

A voice can change everything. ❤️

For some students, communication doesn't happen through spoken words—but that doesn't mean they have less to say.

Thanks to the vision of grant recipient Ashley Zbranek and the generosity of Klein Education Foundation donors, students are gaining access to communication devices that help them share their thoughts, participate in learning, build relationships, and express who they are.

Through the A Voice for Every Student: Augmentative Communication Access grant, these tools are opening doors to greater independence, confidence, and connection, both in the classroom and beyond.

Seeing these students confidently use their devices is a powerful reminder that communication comes in many forms and that every student deserves the opportunity to be heard.
