We have said this blessing over our kids every Friday night for years. As we gather for Sabbath dinner, my parents, Jeff and I lay hands on our kids heads and recite Numbers 6:24-26.

But this morning I was reminded that I have the authority of Christ to bless others. His kingdom is one of blessing. Hearts are softened by an outpouring of love. Especially in a world of criticism, offense, hate, or measuring up- how much more will we shine His light by blessing others? The exact opposite of comparison or insecurity or pride.

I can so easily turn to constant correction or discouragement when it comes to my kids. I can often visit the land of “what ifs” and “oh no’s”.

However, there’s another way. The kingdom way. We can choose to speak life over our kids, speak blessing and release the kingdom of heaven right here and now.

Our words hold so much weight. May we be mothers who delight in our children and who shift the atmosphere by speaking blessing over them each day and night.
