There's a cow behind me. I wanted to give you an update since my last post.

First of all, Thank You! I'm so grateful to you for everything you've done for me and I appreciate your help getting me through this life changing situation. Also, Today is Memorial Day and I want to give thanks to all of those Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country. I'm grateful for them.

I wanted to give you and update on my prostate cancer. I have gotten a referral to UCSF to see Dr. Peter Carroll. The Veterans Administration has approved the referral and will pay for my health care related costs. My first appointment is set up for June 14th through 16th in San Francisco and treatment may begin the following week or two. It will likely be 8 weeks of radiation, 5 days a week.

It's a good news bad news situation. The VA has approved the medical coverage but have denied paying for any related travel expenses, housing, transportation or treatment expenses outside of Hawaii. Their reasoning is that I have the same or similar treatment options available to me on Oahu at a lower cost, so they won't pay for it nor will they authorize me to stay at The VA's Hoptel medical housing in San Francisco while receiving treatment. Apparently it's my choice to choose California and a better quality of healthcare but must pay for that choice, not to mention the lack of timely and available health care in Hawaii. Again, I really appreciate all the help and support you've given me!

In preparation for my treatment I've made some life changes. I have gone to a completely plant based diet. I'm doing hot Yoga 90 minutes a day, 5 days a week and working out at the gym on the other days.
