New ChIcKeN fabric!! 🐓We love when our customers buy our chicken fabric and ask how did they end up here. Here’s some of the history behind it. In the 1800s, many Cuban and Bahamian families brought chickens with them for fresh eggs, meat, and the popular pastime of cockfighting. When cockfighting was eventually outlawed, many birds were released or escaped, creating the wild flocks that still wander the island today.
Over the years, these colorful roosters and hens became beloved local icons. Protected by city ordinance, they now strut through neighborhoods, perch on porches, and casually stop traffic, delighting visitors while reminding everyone of Key West’s rich multicultural heritage.
So, the next time a rooster crosses your path in Key West, remember—you’re looking at a living piece of island history. 🐔🌴

✨Spotlight Tuesday✨
A big shoutout to the amazing Mrs. Lauren Liz, Key West High School Fashion teacher.
With the guidance of her mom and nana, Lauren started learning how to sew at the age of 15. Her passion for sewing kept growing as a student in Mrs. Santana’s class. Since then, she has now filled the role as the fashion teacher at the high school.
She inspires her students to express themselves through design, style, and innovation. Through her enthusiasm, dedication, and positive attitude, she serves as a role model, showing students that hard work, imagination, and perseverance can turn their ideas into reality.
Thank you for all that you do and continue to do.
Here are some photos of the incredible talent her students showcased during this year’s fashion show! We are so proud of you all. For more pictures, check out KWHS Fashion🪡🧵
