What is happening in Monroe County?
The Department of Education found that Monroe County School District is violating the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The district is:
1. placing students with disabilities in overly restrictive settings, typically at home and with shortened school days, limiting access to their regular learning setting, and
2. misusing a process called the 45-day interim alternate education setting (IAES) process, removing students with disabilities inappropriately instead of creating more educational placement options.

Disability Rights Florida is concerned that these violations of the IDEA are continuing in Monroe County. If this is happening to you or someone you know, please contact us to see if we can help.
