“Nathan Moyer has built an entire nonprofit on the idea that trash can be treasure. After a decade helping local nonprofits and businesses with design and branding, the artist launched Free Plastic in 2019 with the goal of transforming ocean plastic and post-consumer waste into something beautiful and functional.

Since then, Free Plastic has collected more than five tons of pollution from South Florida ecosystems and recycled hundreds of pounds into works of art, public installations, and park signage.

Moyer’s creations range from vibrant pieces for the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami’s “Poetry on the Plaza” program to recycled plastic signage at Big Cypress National Preserve. He has also engaged thousands through community workshops, proving that plastic isn’t just a problem to be tossed away but-with the right mindset-a material with surprising potential.” — for Aventura Magazine, November 2025
