While hosting the open house today, a lady came in and asked if the home was also available for rent. I let her know it was only for sale. That's when she told me, "I think I've been scammed."

Unfortunately, someone had listed the property as a rental and convinced her to send $350 to "start the rental process." 😔

I cannot stress this enough:

❌ DO NOT send money to someone through Facebook Marketplace for a rental property.
❌ DO NOT send money before verifying who owns or manages the property.
❌ DO NOT pay simply to view a property.

Scammers are everywhere right now, and they are getting very good at making listings look legitimate. They often steal photos from real estate websites and advertise homes that are actually for sale as rentals.

The individual today was planning to file a police report and contact her bank in hopes of recovering the funds. The seller and listing agent will also be contacting law enforcement regarding the fraudulent rental listing.

If you're looking for a rental:
✅ Verify who owns or manages the property.
✅ Meet someone in person when possible.
✅ Research the property online.
✅ Never send money through unverified payment methods.

Please share this with friends and family. Losing $350 is hard enough, but some people lose thousands of dollars before realizing they've been targeted.
