đźš‘ One Year of Making a Difference in Ketchikan đźš‘
On June 10th, 2024, the Ketchikan Fire Department launched its Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) program — a community-based, non-emergent service dedicated to providing care with dignity and respect to Ketchikan’s most vulnerable populations.
In just over one year, our MIH team has:
âś… Helped 202 enrolled patients with over 1,000 documented contacts
âś… Partnered with PeaceHealth, Public Health, Salvation Army, Ketchikan Wellness Coalition, PATH Shelter, and many others
✅ Reduced “high utilizer” EMS calls by over 85% for participating patients
✅ Delivered wound care, medications, case management, health education, substance use support, and more — often at no cost to the patient
🏆 And the impact has been recognized far beyond Ketchikan:
✨ 2025 State of Alaska – Office of Rural Health “Community Star”
✨ 2025 Alaska Hospital & Healthcare Association – “Champion Award” for Innovation in Patient Safety and Quality
🌟 Recently nominated for a National Award recognizing outstanding community health programs
These honors represent not just awards on paper, but the real-world difference the MIH program makes every day in our community.
Behind the numbers are powerful stories — like the patient whose EMS calls dropped by 95% after MIH connected him with housing, medical care, and community support.
💙 This program works because of the trust built between our team, our partners, and our community. Thank you to everyone who has helped make MIH’s first year a success!
