Today we stepped outside our comfort zone and took a basic jiu jitsu self-defense class — and wow, what an experience.

Thank you to: Jo Co Jiu Jitsu for taking the time with our ladies group!! We learned a lot, had fun and will be back!

We learned how to fight back if someone:
• Pulls your hair • Chokes you
• Tries to drag or take you somewhere
• Gets you to the ground

But this wasn’t just watching techniques… we practiced EVERYTHING hands-on with each other. Real movement. Real pressure. Real scenarios.

One of the biggest takeaways from today:
YOU CAN FIGHT.
Always fight. Never stop fighting. Never willingly let someone take you somewhere without a fight.

Some things we learned that really stood out:
• Get close to them — control space instead of panicking
• Your hips, knees, and feet are powerful tools
• Elbow-to-hip connection is STRONG
• “Hips to the sky” can create movement and escape opportunities
• If you can hold onto them and control them, it can limit their ability to hurt you

This class reminded us that self-defense isn’t about being fearless… it’s about refusing to quit.

A few more important jiu jitsu/self-defense tips:
• Create noise — yell, scream, draw attention
• Protect your airway first in any struggle
• Control wrists and hands whenever possible
• Stay moving — movement creates openings to escape
• Learn how to get back to your feet quickly
• Use leverage, not just strength
• Practice under pressure so your body remembers what to do
• Confidence and awareness can prevent situations before they start
• The goal is ESCAPE and survival — not “winning” a fight

Every woman should take a class like this at least once. It builds confidence in a whole new way. 💪

Ladies, just a reminder that our group meets this Saturday from 2:30–4:30 PM!

It’s going to be hot, and we’re planning to spend time outside working on shooting drills, so please dress accordingly:

• Shorts are totally fine
• Please wear appropriate tops (no low-cut or V-neck)
• Closed-toe shoes only — no flip flops

We’re really excited to see y’all and continue sharpening skills together. We’ve got a fun drill planned, so you definitely don’t want to miss this one! 🔥💪
