Friday: update: still. no. power......

Thursday update: still no power

Wednesday update : still no power

As with many of our neighbors, we remain without power and have no estimate for when it will be restored. Unfortunately, we cannot access medical records or answer phones without power. We will re-assess throughout the day. Thanks to the crews working diligently to get things up again and to the first responders taking care of our community.

With the predicted high temperatures, Dr. Ferrill reminds you to stay hydrated and to search out climate controlled locations to cool off during the heat of the day.

What is Paxlovid? (Please see Dr. Ferrill's personal statement at the end).

PAXLOVID is an investigational medication authorized for Emergency Use to treatment mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults and children (12 years of age and older weighing at least 88 pounds [40 kg]) with a positive test for the virus that causes COVID-19, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death.

PAXLOVID is investigational because it is still being studied. There is limited information about the safety and effectiveness of using PAXLOVID to treat people with mild-to-moderate COVID‑19.

It must be started within 5 days of onset of symptoms.

HIGH RISK CONDITIONS: Age >65, lung disease (asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis), immune suppressed, heart disease (hypertension, stroke, heart attack), diabetes, obesity (BMI >30), chronic kidney disease, pregnant, sickle cell disease. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-care/underlyingconditions.html

Do NOT take Paxlovid if you have severe kidney or liver disease.

Do NOT take Paxlovid with statin, certain heart medications (like amiodarone), sildenafil, colchicine, ergotamine or some seizure medications as there are life threatening interactions. See Box 2 for a list. https://www.covid19treatmentguidelines.nih.gov/therapies/antiviral-therapy/ritonavir-boosted-nirmatrelvir--paxlovid-/paxlovid-drug-drug-interactions/

There are other MEDICATIONS WITH WHICH Paxlovid INTERACTS and can be checked here: https://covid19-druginteractions.org/checker. It interacts with birth control pills, amlodipine, plavix (clopidogrel), oxycodone, vi**ra (sildenafil) and trazodone.

The SIDE EFFECTS include bad taste in the mouth, GI upset, elevated blood pressure, muscle aches and feeling unwell.

REBOUND COVID can occur after completing the course. Individuals take the medicine, test negative, then the symptoms recur and they test positive again. The incidence is reported as low (
