There is something incredibly rewarding about walking back into the classrooms of WMU, not as a student this time, but as a professional helping the next generation of marketers.
As a WMU MBA alum, being invited back to mentor these students and give them hands-on experience with Google Ads campaigns has been a highlight of the year, so far.
We didn't just talk about "digital strategy" in the abstract. We got into the weeds of real budgets, real keywords, and the real-world pressure of driving ROI.
These students were impressively bright and eager to get their hands dirty. They weren't just looking for a grade; they were looking for the "how-to" that actually moves the needle for a business.
Donating my time to help the next generation of marketers get practical, high-level experience is one of the best ways I know to give back to the university that helped shape my own career.
I'm looking forward to seeing their growth over the next few weeks of this project. (And mine. I always learn something new when working with a new generation!!)

I was talking to a colleague recently who felt like they were failing.
They had just seen a peer in a different city hit a major milestone, while they were still grinding reach theirs. They felt that familiar sting of inadequacy—that feeling that they were somehow "less than" because their timeline looked different.
Just so you are aware, comparison is almost always an unfair fight.
When you compare your "behind-the-scenes" to someone else's "highlight reel," you are ignoring the variables that make your businesses completely different:
The Market: Their city might have a different cost of living, a different labor pool, or a higher density of your ideal clients.
The Starting Line: You don't know the capital they started with, the mentors they had, or the specific lucky breaks they caught along the way.
The Human Factor: They have different employees with different strengths. You have a different life with different priorities.
The CEO Shift is moving from "How am I doing compared to them?" to "What can I learn from them?"
When we stop using someone else’s milestone as a stick to beat ourselves with, we can finally start listening for the insights.
Instead of feeling inadequate, look at their success as proof of what is possible. Listen to how they solved a problem you’re currently facing. Take the strategy, but leave the shame behind.
You are exactly where you need to be for the decisions you’ve made and the challenges you’ve faced. You are enough, and your timeline is yours alone.
I’m curious:
What is one milestone you’ve seen a peer hit recently that you’re now using as inspiration instead of a reason to feel "behind"?
