Headlines:

-More snow through Friday AM. Heaviest will fall tonight (Wednesday evening) through Thursday evening.

-Flash freezing may occur on any wet roadways this evening as temperatures plummet from 32ish down into the teens.

-Lake effect snow squalls will begin shortly after the temperatures drop. These squalls will push inland and will affect portions of the east side of the state.

-Winds will be gusty out the southwest today, changing to northwest this evening when the arctic front arrives. Gusts up to 40-50mph are possible.

-Wind + Snow potential = Whiteout conditions & even blizzard like conditions for short periods of time in localized areas.

-Snow will continue through Friday AM, and the totals below are for ADDITIONAL snowfall accumulations through that same timeframe

Changes to the forecast:

-We’ve expanded the 8-12” zone in northern lower

-We pulled the 2-4” and 3-6” zones a bit further east to account for the expectation that snow squalls will make it further east

-Changed the pink zone from 4-8” to 5-10”

-Added a corridor of 2-4” from the Tri Cities to the thumb to account for latest model guidance

-Changed the T-2” to 1-3” as we expect everyone to at very least get in on some snow squall action this evening.

-Cut totals down on the southwest Michigan lakeshore as warm lake influences + Strong winds will push bands inland and prevent major accumulation in close proximity to the lake.

Notes:

-Localized higher amounts possible, especially in the UP, Northern Lower, and western lower Michigan. If we can get repeated snow squalls over the same area(s) we could very well see 16” in the UP, or 14” in west Michigan in LOCALIZED spots.

-Snow squalls this evening will be intense so please drive carefully

-Flash freeze is likely tonight! Use extreme caution if traveling.
