✨ New mural at The Reef Institute! ✨

Pictured above is artist Scott Klimek with our Executive Director, Leneita Fix! According to Scott, “Coral Colony Cartography” explores the confluence of art and science through the living architecture of coral reefs, mapping their interconnection, structure, and flow. Inspired by both the microscopic and monumental worlds of marine biology, the work creates a space where ideas, creativity, and conservation coexist as harmoniously as the reefs themselves.

Scott shares that the color palette is drawn directly from the ocean, from the radiant pigments of coral polyps and their symbiotic algae to the glowing blues within the light spectrum that sustain coral growth. Beneath the waves, red and yellow light fade away, leaving behind luminous tones of violet, indigo, cyan, and blue, the wavelengths that sustain photosynthesis and support coral life.

Organic forms such as polyps, branches, rings, and rhythmic patterns interweave to express the ocean’s harmony and hidden complexity. The mural celebrates the symbiotic relationships that sustain both coral ecosystems and the creative process itself, where observation fuels imagination and art and science continuously illuminate one another. 💙🌿

You can also see more of Scott’s ocean-inspired work at his Artist Reception for Palm Beach Gardens Art on Thursday, November 6, from 5:30–7 PM at the Burns Road Community Center, 4404 Burns Road.
