We are pleased to announce the promotion of Ammon Washburn from Senior Accountant to Manager, effective this month.

Ammon has consistently demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, leadership, and dedication to client service as a Senior Accountant. During his time with us, Ammon has been pivotal in helping manage the audits for our largest attest clients and leading our sales tax audit team. In his new role as Manager, Ammon will help oversee our client attest services and mentor our attest staff.

Meet Jasper Vic Soriano, one of our newest staff accountants.

Jasper was born in the Philippines, in a small town about 3 hours away from Manila. He moved to Alaska when he was around 2 or 3 years old, and we're so glad to have him as a part of our community here in Southeast. As a new addition to the Elgee Rehfeld team, we've been working to make sure he feels welcome in the office.

Jasper is a major sports fan. He likes to watch all types, but especially loves basketball and soccer. He fondly remembers his time on the soccer team at Thunder Mountain High School. Every time they traveled to Sitka, it was raining buckets.

“I remember the field we played on was completely flooded with water and was very muddy, because Sitka had a dirt field at the time. It didn't help that I played goalie throughout high school, so I just have memories of literally swimming whenever I dove for a ball at Sitka's dirt soccer field.” Plenty of you Southeast Alaska high school athletes can probably relate!

At our recent firm dinner party, we took the time to share our gratitude for the outstanding employees at Elgee Rehfeld.

Our team is preparing to tackle a busy tax season and supporting one another is how we stay vibrant and efficient. This time of year, these wonderful people are working tirelessly behind the scenes to make your tax filing smooth and seamless.

Meet one of our tax accountants, Brittney Ortega!

While Brittney is a relatively new addition to Elgee Rehfeld, she has already shown herself to be a great team member. She credits her tax manager with answering her questions and providing encouragement to motivate her on her learning journey. In the tax world, new rules are always emerging and subject to change. Brittney emphasizes the importance of self-driven research:

“I would say to the community that financial literacy is so important and that anyone can research their questions to gain deeper knowledge and understanding. Elgee Rehfeld does a great job of meeting clients where they are and providing guidance tailor fit to each circumstance, but having even a little bit of personal research can go a long way.”

Brittney wants to give a special thanks to her ever-supportive husband. Through the long, dark Alaska winters, he shows her the big picture and helps her be the best version of herself. A year or so ago, as they counted down the final moments of 2024, Brittney and her husband looked out at the northern lights' dancing ribbons of green, pink and purple.

It was a beautiful new beginning, and we're so glad to have Brittney as one of our newest team members!

When we’re not in one of our many busy seasons, we make it a point to step away from the office and spend time together outside of work. Our biggest event this year was our Firm Family Barbecue — a perfect end-of-summer gathering and a great chance to enjoy quality time in the beautiful Alaskan outdoors.

Also pictured: a few of our “Trails & Ales” meetups throughout the summer, plus a send-off celebration for one of our team members at Forbidden Peak.

Every year, we volunteer at the Registration Table for Cancer Connection’s Annual Beat the Odds marathon. Thank you to our volunteer crew, pictured, who helped out this year! It's a cause that's near and dear to us, and we're always grateful to be able to offer our time and support.
