The proposed Herbert Glacier Cabin had broad public support, so why was it canceled?
In its opposition, Grande Portage Resources wrote that a cabin near the Herbert Glacier Trail would "significantly enhance recreational opportunities" in the area — that sounds like a benefit for the public. But the company also argued it would be "incredibly challenging, likely impossible" to shield cabin visitors from the visual and noise impacts of future mining activity.
When decisions about our public lands prioritize accommodating potential future mining over expanding public recreation, it's worth asking whose interests are being put first.
If you care about protecting public lands, come spend the day with us in the Herbert Glacier Valley and help celebrate them. July 18. Click here for more info: https://bit.ly/4aqeC5Z
