Samuel Doman
Junction City School Board Position #2
I pledge;
Honesty, and a common sense voice for the parents and the taxpayer. I am a new candidate running for the board. My opponent has served many years on the board and I appreciate his volunteering! I am hoping that Voter's agree with me that it is good to get some more people involved, which is why I am running. Please vote by Tuesday May 16 and share this!
As you know the voters decided to pass a $20 million dollar bond measure and I pledge to see that every dollar goes as far as we can make it go to ensure Junction City School district teachers have the resources they need to help our children reach their potential.
I come from a family of educators and my father served on the school board for 8 years and I feel the need to give of my time and talents to serve the community. I will also have two children in Junction City schools this fall and I want to do my best to help them have a great educational experience. I feel like the board could use a fresh voice and new perspective moving forward.
I stand for fiscal responsibility and common sense. I believe that government is meant to serve the people not the other way around, and that goes for public schools as well.
I am including a short resume of myself because I feel I am applying to be the voice of the parents and community members.

I am one of 4 NEW candidates running for our local school board. I appreciate the long hours our current school board has volunteered over their past terms. My opponent in this contest has served for 20 years! I think it is time for some new ideas on the board and am asking for your vote!
My name is Brenda Gambee and I am running for the Junction City school board. I am a wife and a mother of 6 children. Our children have attended Laurel Elementary, Territorial Elementary, and Oaklea Middle School. We have also hosted 3 foreign exchange students over the years that have attended Junction City High School and look forward to hosting more in the future. This school year, we elected to homeschool our children through a public charter school.
I have heard skepticism about a homeschooling mother running for schoolboard. Those gripes are as wrong-headed as they are foreseeable. Taxpayers don’t need to have children in public schools to formulate good ideas about how to improve the schools they help fund. That logic would rule out young adults with pre-school children or none at all, middle-aged parents whose children are out of school and grandparents whose children don’t even live in the area. All of those types of people have different perspectives that could be valuable on any school board.
I have a true passion for education; I spend over a hundred hours each and every month working with other volunteer teachers and parents to teach children.
I will support teachers and programs that help to create a safe learning environment, including suspensions. I do not look at children as “butts in seats” to get more funding. I believe that teachers being able to create a safe learning environment where they will be backed up by the board will instinctively draw families to our schools. In our home, respect and behavior come before books.
I support parents. No more guilt! Parents need to be supported. These kids are not just dollars for the district. The district’s #1 goal should be what is best for the child, even if that means the child does not attend this district. Over 200 kids that are in our district are finding alternative education outside of our district. . That’s close to 15%. Sounds like some needs are not being met. Are we listening to parents? When I withdrew my youngest son because I knew as a mother that he was not ready for all day kindergarten I was given a lecture in which I could have contradicted every argument made. If we want children back in our district then we need to be working on communicating with them. I support alternatives. If a parent does not feel like their child’s needs are being met/heard and they are willing to step up and make the sacrifices -which often times means living on one income, teaching your own child, driving to another school, doing hours and hours of research needed to help their child -then there should be no guilt trips given at the district office. I support parents and their involvement in or out of the schools. I believe that parent groups are key to a school’s success and should be well supported by the school board as they are supporting the schools so well. If and when a parent comes to get their form signed to remove their child it is essential that healthy communication is used. Why are the child’s needs not being met? Find out if it is because, maybe the child was hit in the head with a thrown pencil by another child that continues to have outbursts in class? Is the child bored and need to be moving ahead quicker? Was an agenda pushed onto their child? Was a child being treated inappropriately by other children? Is the family a family of faith and feels like if Christ isn’t invited into the school then they don’t want their child there either? Let’s build bridges not burn them down!
I feel that our district is over using Public Relations. We don’t need to just hear what sounds nice and fluffy on the ears but we need to know the truth, the whole truth! Transparency is a must. There needs to be more open discussions at board meetings. Opportunities for the community to respond to things being discussed at the meetings not just “non-agenda items”.
I believe that it is our duty as citizens to be involved and I am willing to do so. I am willing to devote the time and energy needed.
I am a big advocate for respect and I am committed to being respectful to others no matter how different our opinions may be. I’m not afraid to make decisions or to stand up for what is right while at the same time being able to truly listen and see others perspectives and accept the will of the majority.
Lastly, I know that communication is huge and I am willing and able to be transparent. If we want to be teaching kids morals and values, then it is essential that our Superintendent and schoolboard have those values and morals and do their best to live them.
The mission I have is shared with many in our community. One of vision, of unity, community and success. My goal is to bring the community back together to work together to reach that high level of education our students deserve. I believe in our educators, parents and students in that they will help the Junction City School District to be one of the best in the state instead of where we are currently ranked, which is unranked.
