Designing in Layers

Every designer will tell you that in order to achieve a well-rounded interior, layers are a must.
Each element in a space- paint, flooring, lighting, wallpaper, artwork- is a layer.
The art of layering is to learn how to use each of these elements cohesively.

1. Choose your main color, and build from there. This is the foundation for all of your design.
2. Pick your flooring- if picking a patterned floor, design from there will follow.
3. A wall pattern (if any).
4. Artwork on walls
5. Rugs
6. Layering windows with fabrics (window treatments)
7. Lighting
8. Textures; various furniture pieces
9. Mix furniture shapes
10. Accessories (jewelry)
