We just heard of a situation in the Grand Rapids area that took over 180k from a soon to be buyer, and left them with no money and essentially no new home. This does happen everywhere and you must protect yourself and ask questions if something sounds off. Use your realtor to guide you along the way. If something, especially money related, suddenly changes or is different than your realtor or lender has previously explained, call them ASAP! Ask them about what is being requested. These are the people working for you and looking out for your best interest during this process. Always call to verify, do not trust text or email if you suspect something is wrong.
