**Artist Statement: "Life as Kites"** "Life as Kites" is an exploration of the delicate balance between connection and individuality in the journey of love. The painting is anchored in shades of blue, symbolizing the depths of the subconscious where feelings often reside beyond our conscious grasp. The water at the bottom represents the foundation of emotions that underpin our experiences, fluid and ever-present. In this work, kites serve as a metaphor for the desire to both share a profound bond with another and maintain the freedom to soar independently. When two people come together in love, there is a need for mutual understanding and intimacy, yet also a need for personal freedom. If one partner becomes the other's anchor, holding them down, an imbalance forms, stifling growth and joy. However, when both partners can fly their kites together, each at the same level, they achieve a harmonious balance, truly living life in its fullest expression. "Life as Kites" invites the viewer to reflect on their own relationships and the balance between connection and freedom, urging us to find a way to share our journey while still allowing each other to soar.

Swan Song 2017 Acrylic on Canvas 36" x 72" "Swansong" is a meditation on the passage of time and the contrast between the romantic ideals of classical living and the harsh realities of the modern age. The painting captures the essence of beauty, nature, and the ethereal quality of life that defined the Middle Ages—a time when the world was perceived as a delicate balance of grace and harmony. When viewed upright, the focal point is a swan, symbolizing purity and elegance, yet it appears sorrowful, almost as if it is on the brink of death. This swan represents the fading ideals of the past, as the modern world encroaches upon the beauty that once was. The sadness in the swan's eyes is a lament for what has been lost—a mournful recognition that the world it knew is no longer the same. Flipping the painting reveals a stark contrast: a fragmented memory of old Italy, a once-vibrant culture now reduced to a broken and incomplete replication. This image serves as a metaphor for the decay of classical ideals in the face of the 20th century’s relentless march toward progress and industrialization. The ruins echo the swan's sorrow, a poignant reminder that the soft, beautiful, and natural world of the past has been irrevocably altered. Through "Swansong," I seek to explore the tension between the enduring beauty of nature and the inevitable changes brought by time and human progress. The work invites the viewer to reflect on what has been gained, but more importantly, on what has been lost."
