This is such a powerful quote!
It also reminds me of this gem from Richard Louv:
"If we're going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature."
Let's get our kids outside, connecting with nature and loving our planet. It will make all the difference!

ππ Become an Ocean Explorer! ππ
Adventure awaits at Spring River's Ocean Explorers Summer Camp!
Next week, campers will set off on a one-of-a-kind journey of storytelling, nature exploration, creativity, and daily beach adventures as they discover the incredible world of Florida's coastline.
Each morning begins with a new story told by Miss Carrie of βGrandfather Olaf,β a retired sea captain who spent many years sailing the seas before making his home on our beautiful coast. Through his stories, campers will discover what every Ocean Explorer does: wonder, look closely, learn from nature, care for the shore, and share discoveries with others.
Throughout the week, campers will:
π Enjoy daily beach adventures
π Explore shells and coastal treasures
π¦ Observe coastal wildlife and beach ecosystems
π¨ Create ocean-inspired art
π Keep their own Ocean Explorer journal
πΆ Sing songs, play games, and enjoy imaginative storytelling
π
Celebrate Friday with an Ocean Explorer Ceremony, receiving an Ocean Explorer Certificate and special keepsakes to remember their journey.

πΏ Yesterday marked a wonderful beginning to our Garden to Kitchen Camp! πΏ
Campers spent the day getting to know new friends, settling into their new space, and discovering the joy of creating food from the garden to the table.
πThe morning began with colorful fruit skewers made from fresh watermelon, local blueberries, and optional sprigs of mint harvested right from the garden. The group then walked across the street to the community garden, where they gathered fresh herbs and peppers that would later become part of their afternoon meal. Seeing where food grows helped deepen their appreciation for the connection between the earth and the meals we share.
,
Back at camp, the children crushed ripe tomatoes π
by hand, chopped fresh garlic and herbs, and simmered everything together over the fire to create a delicious homemade marinara. After cooling off at the splash pad and enjoying lunch together, the culinary adventure continued.
In the afternoon, campers blended oats into flour, made fresh coconut milk, mixed a gluten-free dough, and shaped their own breads π₯ before roasting them over the fire. There was something especially satisfying about enjoying warm bread dipped into a marinara they had harvested, prepared, and cooked together from start to finish.
It was a beautiful beginning to our Garden to Kitchen week, reminding us that food has a unique way of connecting us to the earth, to one another, and to the joy of creating with our own hands.
We canβt wait to share more highlights from the rest of the week! πΏπ
