ADHD vs. Anxiety: How to Tell the Difference?
Difficulty focusing, feeling overwhelmed, forgetting tasks, or struggling to stay organized are often assumed to be signs of ADHD. However, anxiety can produce many of the same symptoms. Because the two conditions overlap, it is common for adults and parents to wonder: Is this ADHD, anxiety, or both?
Understanding the differences matters. ADHD and anxiety require different treatment approaches, and misidentifying the cause of attention problems can lead to ineffective care. A careful evaluation helps clarify what is driving the difficulties and what will actually help.

Many people associate ADHD with childhood, but attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder often continues into adulthood. In fact, many adults do not realize they have ADHD until years of ongoing struggles with focus, organization, or productivity begin to affect work, relationships, or daily life.
Adult ADHD often looks different than it does in children. Rather than obvious hyperactivity, symptoms typically show up as chronic overwhelm, inconsistent performance, or difficulty managing everyday responsibilities. Understanding the signs can help you decide whether a professional evaluation may be helpful.
