Waking to the news of this man’s passing, broke a piece of my heart that will be buried with all the other bits of my heart that have fluffed off throughout my life but manages to extend its tiny vines to my beating, loving heart left here filling me with gratitude and joy for the life that is .
Q, lived a gorgeous life, and as we all know he had so much room to share it with so many of us who got the opportunity to work with, and know him . My voice, on tape, Aretha Franklin’s Until You Come Back To Me , got me my first job in this business of music .. you heard me and said YES! It was the sort of kindness and recognition that you can only imagine . And it was realized by you. Quincy Jones ,changed the navigational pull of my life, and course corrected me on a path of musical joy and creativity beyond measure.
Beyond the magic of his music he was a beautiful heart ,who, like I have mentioned had a capacity for love and kindness, not many in this business would dare be brave enough to share with anyone outside the circle . But,When I lost my brother and my father, Quincy, reached out to send his condolences and love. He sent a book on grieving, that to this day, I share with others who have lost someone . It’s The gift that keeps giving in that deep brokenness and darkness of loss . The bit of light that allows healing . I’m sure his family has all of his energy swirling though the rooms of their home and will forever . That life, his life,Quincy Jones’s life energy will swirl around his beautiful family , and around all of us reminding to always stay available to love and hear the melody in the song . Thank you,Quincy Jones .
For everything …
I mean everything

Here is a little history for individuals who are fans of the movies Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick.
The first Top Gun competition was held in 1949.
The caucasian pilots competed with the latest state of art aircraft, while the African-American pilots were forced to compete with the much older, obsolete planes.
After 3 days of competition, the Tuskegee Airmen team of : Captain Alva Temple, 1st Lieutenant Harry Stewart, 1st Lieutenant James Harvey, and 1st Lieutenant Halbert Alexander (alternate) were announced the winners.
There was dead silence in the room.
Not one of their (hypocritical) colleagues applauded this accomplishment.
The victory was swept under the rug, and the trophy was not seen by the public for 55 years.

What a shock to hear Tito has passed. I just did a radio interview with him, with he and Marlon and Jackie about a week ago… and then we all did the Fool in Love festival here in Los Angeles… Tito was performing there with his brothers. This is such a shock to hear that he has passed, he will surely be missed… Frankie Beverly and now Tito… such sad news. Love and condolences to the families and fans across the world.
