Verna Benge
Born in Neosho, Missouri, she was brought to California by her mother in 1944 and raised in
Northern California by her parents. She returned to Neosho in 2006 and later moved back to
California in 2020, where she spent the remainder of her life in Ione, California.
She spent many years as a dedicated employee with several school districts throughout the
Sacramento area, retiring from the Folsom-Cordova School District in 1996. She had a deep love
for family gatherings, social activities, and traveling the open road with her brother, Jackie “Jack”
Mitchell, a long-haul truck driver. She was never one to sit still—always on the go and eager to
embrace life’s next adventure.
Creative by nature, there wasn’t an art or craft she wouldn’t try. She was an active member of the
Daughters of the American Revolution, P.E.O., and the Episcopal Church, where she built lasting
friendships and faithfully served her community.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Roderick “Rod” Benge; her daughter, Joy
Butler, and son-in-law, Randy Butler; her son, Eric Benge and Brenda Jenkins; her brother, Albert
“Bud” Mitchell; her granddaughter, Natalie Smiley, and her husband, Daniel Smiley; and her
grandsons, Wayne Zucco, Eric Hagopian, and Jacob Butler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Vernon “Jack” Mitchell and Edna Mitchell; her
sister, Joy Lowe; and her brother, Jackie “Jack” Mitchell.
She was deeply loved by her family and friends. Her joyful spirit, boundless energy, creativity, and
love for those around her will be remembered always. She will be greatly missed but forever
cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Mary Ester Ball
Mary Ester Ball
(Chambers)
April 26, 1939 – June 19, 2026
A woman of faith, compassion, and unwavering love, Mary Ester Ball peacefully entered into eternal rest on June 19, 2026, at 8:48 a.m., at the age of 87, with her loving family by her side.
Born on April 26, 1939, Mary lived a life centered on God, family, and caring for others. Her faith guided her through every season of life and was reflected in the kindness she showed, the strength she carried, and the love she gave so freely.
Mary was one of six siblings and treasured the bond she shared with her family throughout her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the heart of her family—the one everyone could turn to for comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her home was always filled with warmth, open arms.
Mary proudly served as a Nurse in Amador County for more than 35 years. She dedicated herself to caring for others while also raising her family and creating a life rooted in love, faith, and compassion.
She is survived by her four children, Michael, James, Diane, and Billy; her beloved sister, Maxine Chambers Pratt, and brother-in-law, Bobby Pratt; her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with extended family and many dear friends.
Her family was Mary's greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Those who knew her will remember her gentle spirit, her unwavering faith, her warm smile, and her ability to make everyone feel loved and welcome.
Though her family grieves her loss deeply, they find comfort in knowing she is now at peace and resting in the arms of her Savior.
Mary's faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
The family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Mary Ester Chambers Ball to support Alzheimer's and dementia research in the hope of finding a cure for this devastating disease.
