Kindergarten Academy was a huge success! 🎉

This past Wednesday through Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming our incoming kindergarten scholars for a special preview of the school year. During Kindergarten Academy, our scholars had the opportunity to become familiar with school routines, learn important rules and expectations, meet new friends, and experience just a glimpse of all the fun and learning that awaits them this year!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the families who brought their scholars to participate. Your support helps set the stage for a successful school year.

A special thank you also goes to our incredible staff for their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm in making this event such a wonderful experience. We can't wait to welcome our kindergarten scholars back and kick off an amazing school year together!

This tax free weekend is the perfect time to get your school supplies! Don’t forget to get the supplies your scholar will need for special subjects classes. The 2026-2027 school is almost here!

Attention Obama Magnet Families!

Summer is the perfect time to keep our scholars reading and learning! As a reminder, all Jackson Public Schools students are required to participate in the Summer Reading Program by reading three books over the summer and completing a reading log or summary for each book. The required book is based on your child's rising grade level, and students should also read two additional books of their choice or from the recommended reading lists.

Kindergarten – Hank's Big Day: The Story of a Bug by Evan Kuhlman

Students may borrow books from the JPS District eBook Collection, school libraries, or their local public library.

Join us on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM as we come together to help make our school shine!

We're looking for volunteers to help with:
*Cleaning up the side entrance and student pick-up area
*Preparing our garden beds for vegetables, fruit, and flowers
*Beautifying classrooms, restrooms, and hallways

Whether you can stay for the whole morning or just part of it, your time and effort will make a big difference for our students and staff.

Please use the Google Form to sign up so we can plan for volunteers and supplies. We appreciate your support and look forward to working together to make our school even more welcoming!

We are looking for more Pre-K scholars to join our Obama family. The application window closes on June 12, 2026. Scholars need to be 4 years old by September 1st. The application link is in the comments.

Thank you to the many JPS families who have already completed pre-registration for the 2026-27 school year! If you still need to register your scholar, Phase Two registration will be available June 1-26, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at your child's school and the Poindexter Complex, located at 1017 Robinson Rd., Jackson, MS 39203.

Please note that registration will pause during the final week of June.

Families registering in person should bring two proofs of residency.
