Did you know your child reaches half of their adult height by the age of 2? Infants and toddlers grow very fast. Bowed legs, intoeing, outtoeing, and an uncoordinated gait are all part of the process. If your child turns 2 and you still have concerns, it may be time for an xray of their legs. Children’s of MS is here to help.

What are growing pains? Simply put, they are intermittent complaints of pain around growth plates in rapidly growing children. The pain is commonly seen around the knees but can be present anywhere a child is growing. A helpful way to know if the pain may be normal? Your child gets back to usual activity in between episodes of pain. When to be concerned? Your child has had an injury, or has fever, redness, swelling, or a deformity associated with the pain. Scoliosis is defined as an abnormal curvature of the spine measuring greater than 10 degrees. The most common form I see is in adolescents and is associated with a growth abnormality that caused the spine to curve. If your curve is greater than 25 degrees there are treatment options that could decrease the likelihood of facing surgery to treat your scoliosis. Children’s of Mississippi is here to help.

WE TAKE BLUE CROSS AGAIN!

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi (Blue Cross) have reached an agreement.

Effective December 15, 2022, all UMMC facilities, physicians and other individual Professional Providers are fully participating Network Providers for all Blue Cross commercial health plans, including the Federal Employee Plan and Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans from other states.

Blue Cross and UMMC remain focused on their missions of serving Mississippians’ health care needs.
