Queens Curated
One of my goals with Queens Curated is to feature 100 small businesses by the end of the year.
Not all of them have storefronts. Some start with a tent, a table, a family recipe, and a dream.
Pernil Ecuatoriano is one of those stories.
A family-run vendor bringing the flavors of Ecuador to the Queens Night Market and sharing a piece of their culture with our community.
Supporting small businesses means supporting the people behind them.
100 businesses. 6 months. Let's do this.
The Woodstock
Built 1946
Post-war cooperative
One of the few with garage parking
Caption Most people think Jackson Heights history ends in the 1920s.
The Woodstock tells a different story.
Built in 1946, this post-war cooperative consists of three six-story elevator buildings located in the heart of the historic district.
Residents enjoy elevators, laundry facilities, bike storage, a meeting room, a live-in superintendent, full-time maintenance staff, recycling facilities on every floor, and a 48-space parking garage.
The Woodstock shows how Jackson Heights continued to grow after World War II while preserving the residential character that makes the neighborhood so unique.
This is why people choose Jackson Heights.
Three mural projects. One hospital. Hundreds of stories woven into the walls of Elmhurst Hospital.
This video features the legendary Elmhurst mural by Luis Fernando León — believed to be the longest hospital mural in the country — stretching through the corridors with scenes of healing, migration, resilience, and the many communities that make Queens what it is.
You’ll also see the staircase murals by Carla Torres, bringing color and movement into transitional spaces people walk through every day. And on the rooftop, artwork by Daisy Gertel adds another layer of reflection and humanity above the city noise.
What I love about this project is that it reminds you hospitals are not only places of medicine. They are places of people. Of culture. Of memory. Of survival.
And honestly… this is Queens at its best. Art in public spaces. Stories in multiple languages. Beauty where you least expect it.
