For the last 2 years I have been experimenting with mixed media low relief compositions, some of which are stylized figures and backgrounds. Since the beginning of my art career in America, I have been making low relief art pressing plants and carving clay. I thought cutting paper and fabric should be much easier. And I was right. However, I had to learn how to work with the new materials and tools, which glue and sealant to use. The challenging part was layering the cut papers and creating figures, making clothes, accessories and jewelry. I do not paint lips and eyelashes on their faces, they are pieces of paper. Making the hair with silk thread is still the most difficult, it is like making a wig. Sometimes I use acrylic paint and gilding paste for my textured papers. I feel need to switch from one medium to another, from a small scale of work like jewelry to large wall pieces. Every cycle of experiments adds new skills and ideas for recycling and upcycling, mixing old and new unusual materials, trying new techniques. Now I offer new workshops and classes in my private studio in Irving. If you want to see all art and jewelry collections in my home based gallery, make an appointment and I will give you a tour.
