Back-to-back fires kept our Division 1 crews busy as firefighters responded to two separate incidents in Garden Grove, both believed to have been caused by fireworks.

The first fire destroyed a shed and a large tree, threatening two nearby homes before crews quickly stopped the spread. The second fire caused significant damage to the rear unit of a duplex, where firefighters worked aggressively to keep the fire from extending further and protect neighboring residences.

Thanks to the rapid response, coordinated efforts, and outstanding work of our crews, both fires were contained before they became even more devastating.

As we continue through the holiday weekend, this is an important reminder that fireworks can have life-changing consequences in just seconds. Illegal fireworks are unpredictable, dangerous, and are a leading cause of preventable fires, injuries, and property loss.

Please leave the fireworks to the professionals. Celebrate responsibly, keep your family and neighbors safe, and help prevent the next emergency.

Outstanding work by all of the responding personnel who once again demonstrated their commitment to protecting our community.

Today, our hearts are with the families, friends, and brothers and sisters of the US Wildland Fire Service as we mourn the tragic loss of three firefighters who gave their lives while battling the Knowles Fire on the Colorado–Utah border.

These members of a Helitack crew answered the call to protect lives, communities, and our natural landscapes, knowing the risks that come with the mission. Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.

From everyone at OCFA Division 1, we extend our deepest condolences to their loved ones, their crew, and the entire wildland firefighting community. We also keep in our prayers those who were injured and everyone continuing to battle this fire.

Please join us in honoring these fallen firefighters and keeping all the other two injured members in your thoughts.

Yesterday, our truck companies had the privilege of supporting two meaningful community events in Los Alamitos.

First, we proudly assisted the Los Alamitos Police Department by flying the American flag from our aerial ladder during their Torch Run, honoring the officers and mission it represents.

Later, we once again raised Old Glory high above the city’s America 250 celebration, providing a fitting backdrop as the community came together to celebrate 250 years of our nation’s history and the freedoms we cherish.

We are always proud to support our law enforcement partners, our city, and our community by displaying our nation’s most enduring symbol. Few sights are more inspiring than seeing the Stars and Stripes flying high over a community united in celebration.

🇺🇸 Proud to serve. Proud to partner. Proud to fly our nation’s flag.

It was an honor to stand alongside the City of Garden Grove as we were recognized by Mayor Klopfenstein, council, and City Manager Kim for the collective response to the GKN Aerospace hazardous materials incident.
As Garden Grove’s fire department, we’re proud to serve this community every day, but incidents like this remind us that success is never achieved by one department alone. It takes a unified team.
From City leadership and Public Works to Police, Parks and Rec, Finance, and every department that played a role, the collaboration was exceptional. Together, we protected our community, kept residents informed, managed a complex evacuation, and safely guided thousands of people back home.
The professionalism, teamwork, and commitment displayed throughout this incident were nothing short of outstanding. We are grateful to serve alongside such dedicated public servants and proud to be part of an organization that puts the community first.
This recognition belongs to everyone who answered the call. Thank you, Garden Grove city staff, for showing what can be accomplished when an entire city comes together with one mission. OCFA Division 1 is honored to partner with Garden Grove in service of your residents.

Drownings are preventable, and awareness is one of the most important tools we have to save lives.

Honored to accept a proclamation from Mayor Charlie Nguyen and the Westminster City Council recognizing OCFA’s Drowning Prevention and Awareness Season and supporting our message:

“Watch the Water. Never Swim Alone.”

Every year, far too many families are impacted by drowning incidents. Orange County experienced 95 drowning incidents last year, and we have already seen 30 incidents this year. Behind every number is a person, a family, and a community affected by a tragedy that is often preventable.

As we head into the summer months, we encourage everyone to:

đź’§ Learn to swim and build water safety skills early.
đź’§ Install and maintain protective barriers around pools and spas.
đź’§ Designate a water watcher and avoid distractions such as phones, conversations, or other activities when children are in or near the water.
đź’§ Never swim alone and always swim in areas with appropriate supervision.

Drowning happens quickly and often silently. A few seconds of inattention can change a life forever.

Thank you to the City of Westminster for helping spread this important message and partnering with us to keep our communities safe.

A big win for Garden Grove and the communities we serve.

Thanks to the efforts of Congressman Derek Tran, the City of Garden Grove has secured $1,000,000 in federal funding to upgrade Fire Station 84. These improvements will allow for the future assignment of a truck company, strengthening emergency response capabilities and improving regional coverage throughout the area.

This investment is a great example of federal resources supporting local government in ways that directly benefit our residents. By enhancing Fire Station 84, we are improving response efficiency, increasing operational readiness, and ensuring critical truck company services are strategically positioned to serve the community when they are needed most.

We appreciate Congressman Tran’s commitment to public safety and his support of projects that make a real difference at the local level. Partnerships like these help ensure our firefighters have the facilities and resources needed to continue providing exceptional service to the communities we proudly protect.
