Congratulations to Psychology & Social Behavior alum (BA '18) - and my former honors student - Charlie Su, who will be earning his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas at the end of this month! As part of his Ph.D. program, Charlie completed a clinical neuropsychology internship at the Washington DC VA Center and he will soon return to California to begin a postdoctoral fellowship at the West Los Angeles VA Center.

🍫👕🍦 Can politics influence something as simple as your favorite snack or outfit?

New research suggests the answer is yes. Researchers found that people were less likely to choose everyday products, such as clothing, chocolate, and even charities, after learning those products were preferred by members of a political party they disliked. Interestingly, this effect was even stronger when people believed others from their own political group were watching their choices. The findings are a reminder that political identities can shape more than our opinions about elections and policies. They may also subtly influence our everyday preferences in ways we don't even realize.
