The effect of color and patter.
Ceramic tile mosaic columns at the Palace of Catalan Music (Palau de la Música Catalana), Barcelona in Spain. This structure was designed by the Catalan architect Lluís Domenech I Montaner in 1908. It stands today, restored, as a classic example of modernism.
The colonnades here are each covered entirely with multicolored glazed tiles in various floral designs. At the top of the columns are some incredible blooming flowers exploding from the carved granite. Getting up close and personal with the mosaics, you can appreciate the artistry the artisans put into coloring these tiles. They are so vibrant despite their location outdoors for over a hundred years.
