Faculty Spotlight! Director Chesler received her BS from Swarthmore College and a PhD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology.

She is internationally recognized for her work investigating cardiopulmonary biomechanics and mechanobiology. Her unique education and cross-training in mechanical engineering, physiology, and vascular biology have prepared her to advance cardiovascular research and train the next generation of leaders in this field.

Her expertise in engineering education focuses on the impact of novel approaches to physiology instruction on student learning and how students learn engineering using a learning sciences approach.

Dr. Chesler is dedicated to increasing inclusion and belonging in engineering, and in 2021 she was named the UCI Chancellor's Inclusive Excellence Professor in Biomedical Engineering.

Fun fact: Dr. Chesler played on two traveling women’s ultimate frisbee teams: Ultimate Harmony and Throwing Muses!
