CalPlug's first in-person conference in two years is right around the corner!

At this special event. we will recognize a decade of energy efficiency research and welcome our next ten years of working together for our planet. Our theme for this occasion is Climate Resilient Solutions -- and our mission is to continue improving energy efficiency and productivity as well as lowering GHGs to mitigate climate change for the good and inclusivity of all. Our speakers are experts in their respective fields and are excited to share their knowledge with everyone. Please join us on May 10 for this all-day, in-person celebration!

JOB OPENING!

We've received a large DOE grant to start a new center at UCI, the SMART Industrial Assessment Center. We'll be training students here at UCI to conduct energy and waste assessments for small and medium manufacturers, and training students at local community colleges on assessments for small and medium commercial companies. We need a top-notch Program Manager to help manage this exciting new venture, preferably someone with experience in energy assessments, who can grow with us and make a meaningful contribution to our future.

UCI is currently working remotely and all interviews will be virtual. Future work will be primarily on campus.

I am thrilled to announce that our team was just awarded a five-year contract from the US Department of Energy to establish an Industrial Assessment Center at UC Irvine. The new SMART IAC will conduct energy and productivity assessments for local small manufacturers while training the next generation of college students in smart manufacturing and energy efficiency. We will also collaborate with a team of Orange County community colleges, led by Cypress College, to run a sister program with their students focused on conducting assessments for local small commercial buildings. We couldn't have done it without the help of our many partners, particularly those at California State University Northridge, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and California Manufacturing Technology Consulting.

This is an exciting opportunity for us to advance both our energy efficiency and smart workforce training goals, while supporting local small businesses. Great job, team!

Industrial Assessment Centers – 2021 Announcement On July 26, 2021, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy announced $60 million for 32 higher education institutions located in 28 states across the country to set up and operate regional Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC).

Said Shokair has been a strong supporter of student research in CalPlug, Calit2, and the whole campus. I know that many of our students, past and present, would want to know about this chance to support him in turn.
