Since elementary school fitness tests, we’ve been indoctrinated to believe that crutches, sit-ups, leg lifts, etc will give you core strength. In reality, these exercises only focus on the muscles that bend your abdomen like the re**us abdominis and hip flexors. True core strength comes from the ability to actually brace your abdomen similarly to the way a corset does.

The Water Bottle Challenge
A great exercise for those with a weak back or low back pain.
This is a variation of the classic bird dog which can be a great exercise. However, most people do the poorly and end up compensating with other muscles. Try this with the water bottle and without and see if it makes a difference.
We used a mini sized water bottle to make it extra difficult, but feel free to use any size. The smaller it is, the harder it is.
