Conservation of Angular Momentum. How “turning tight” benefits hitters. A rotating body with weight closer to its axis will rotate much faster than a rotating body with weight further away from its axis. Understanding this is a key component to higher exit velocity readings.

Elite level swing patters generate linear force as well as rotational force. For years hitters were taught to “squish the bug” with their back foot(bottom video). This only applies rotational force to the swing. Elite hitters will drive the back knee linearly under their hips/torso creating a “weightless” back foot. (Top video). You will even see some hitters that have their back foot off the ground at contact which indicates they are utilizing tons of linear force at contact. The role of the entire back side is to be an engine for the swing and create force using the ground.
