Most Americans buy pickup trucks… and barely use them like trucks.

A 2019 Strategic Vision survey of new-truck buyers found: 75% tow once a year or less, nearly 70% go off-road once a year or less, 35% haul loads once a year—or never.

And newer 2025 data showed the same vibe: roughly 32–39% never tow, with full-size trucks used a bit more for real hauling than compact ones.

Big takeaway: pickups dominate sales — but for many owners, they’re mostly daily drivers and lifestyle vehicles, not workhorses.
