Moody's report highlights the structural challenge of rising healthcare wages, which pose a credit risk for hospitals. Although wage growth will moderate by 2025, average pay will surpass past levels. Reimbursement increases, especially from government payors, will not match wage increases. The median operating cash flow margin for nonprofit hospitals dropped from 8.5% in 2019 to 5.3% in 2023.
