šŸ” Pros & Cons of being just a licensed broker (without REALTORĀ® membership)

Pros:

You hold the legal license that allows you to engage in real estate brokerage (depending on the state’s definitions) and can operate independently (hire agents, open your own brokerage in many states) once you meet requirements.

No mandatory association membership fees (if you choose not to join). You keep your overhead lower.

Freedom: You may choose your own branding and business model without being bound by the particular association’s rules (though you still must follow state law and your license requirements).

Cons:

Without REALTORĀ® membership you may miss the marketing/branding advantage of ā€œREALTORĀ®ā€ (depending on your market).

You may have fewer professional-development resources, networking, tools that associations provide.

You might have fewer ā€œflagsā€ for trust with consumers who recognize the REALTORĀ® mark.

You might miss out on group services (MLS access, association-negotiated deals on software/training) depending on your local board arrangements.
