TRAVEL ALERT: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is advising Bahamian citizens to refrain from travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan amid an outbreak of the Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease. The World Health Organization has classified the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

The ministry further encouraged travellers to remain extremely cautious when visiting nearby African nations such as Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Zambia.

Authorities also noted that persons arriving in The Bahamas from the affected regions may undergo intensified health screenings, and could face quarantine or isolation protocols based on medical assessments.

For Americans traveling abroad for a summer vacation, keep these tips in mind!
✅ Make sure your passport isn’t about to expire (some countries require it to be valid for six months beyond your trip).
✅Check local laws and requirements at travel.state.gov/destination.

The Department of State strongly urges Americans not to travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, or Uganda for any reason and to reconsider travel to Rwanda due to the Ebola Bundibugyo Virus disease outbreak in the region. The Department’s Travel Advisories for DRC, South Sudan, and Uganda are now Level 4 – Do Not Travel, and the Travel Advisory for Rwanda is Level 3 – Reconsider Travel.
